the week before memorial weekend, we didn’t have any big plans besides staying in seattle to lounge, maybe hit alpental one last time. but plans actually materialized after mark won VIP tickets to sasquatch from microsoft. we had 3 days of camping and VIP treatment at the gorge and the weather did a decent job of cooperating this year. the last time i was at sasquatch it hailed so i was prepared for the worst this year.  it was a long yet incredible weekend of music, camping, people watching, eating & drinking.  here are the highlights…

saturday:

• getting screwed waiting in the massive line entering the campground (we realized after sitting in line forever that we could have avoided the whole situation if they would have directed us to the premier camping line)
• having a cheddarwurst after years of forgetting about these crazy dogs
• was hoping to see better shows from the new pornographers and modest mouse
• MIA invited a huge crowd up onto the stage (omg i felt really old!!!)
• the expectation of pouring rain the entire night but it just sprinkled off & on
• REM – mark was less than thrilled to sit through through just a few songs

 
 

sunday:

• loved the great personalities of tegan & sara (they would think about us camping as they sat in their hotel rooms watching CNN) - my favorite from the weekend!
• the presidents – the only song i really wanted to hear was peaches and of course i was in the bathroom when they played it
• dude with a mullet and people watching
• michael franti & spearhead were delicious
• beverage service in the VIP area was slow – but hey, it was better than waiting in lines (or walking to the beer stand all day)
• the cure – great to watch such a historic band (we were standing right behind tim meadows “the ladies man” from SNL and matt besser!)

  

monday:

• gorgeous sunshine all afternoon - i tried to get a little tan on the bottom half of my legs that weren’t blistering
• the hives rocked us as much as they legally could or the gorge would crumble (what a handsome swede)
• rodrigo y gabriela – amazing musicians, played pink floyd’s “wish you were here” (the slide guitar part with a beer bottle – i think i was the only person in the whole ampitheatre who didn’t know the words – i’m lame)
• flight of the conchords – almost got trampled getting into the area directly in front of the stage, the hotdog chicks getting bottles and cans thrown at them (almost hitting us too), wishing fiona happy birthday during “business time”, bret & jemaine had the crowd rolling between songs with their awesome quirky comedy act!
