weekend in vail

it’s been a busy month since our trip to colorado!  we’ll see how much blogging i can get caught up on tonight. :)

the day before we left for colorado i bought myself a new pair of volkl aura powder skis!  i wasn’t so thrilled with the female ninja graphic, i was hoping for something orange :), but they are absolutely amazing in the snow.

colorado was great!  mark’s friends, melody and warren, picked us up at DIA on thursday night and we drove downtown to meet up with glenna for dinner.  since there was no fresh snow (no worry about getting fresh tracks), we headed up to vail a little before 8, attempting to miss rush hour through boulder & denver.  warren even made us bagels and a berry smoothie before we headed out the door.  :)  the snow was decent in the back bowls where we spent the majority of the day.  that night after some extremely scalding water in the hot tub (mark tried to dump snow in to make it cool off), we went to a delicious german restaurant in vail village.

on saturday sarah and adam joined us on the slopes.  they have been regulars at vail the the past few years and took us on some great runs at the new (new for me – it opened a few years ago) blue sky basin.  i was enjoying all the powder in the trees, just about got stuck on a cliff, and froze my toes off in the zero degree temps.

sunday was pretty mellow, we checked out beaver creek, which i always enjoyed more than vail growing up because the lines were shorter and it was closer to uncle mike’s house.  it started off slow, but we eventually found some good runs with powder left on them from many days earlier.  adam told us that nobody goes off the groomed runs in beaver creek and it was pretty true.  :)

we headed back down to denver sunday night, and spend most of monday traveling back home.  i wish i had a private helicopter pilot that could just pick me up and drop me off wherever i needed!  :)

  1. Just happened to see this in the travel tags. great pictures. We’re going to Vail in a few weeks–of course we live in denver, so it’s an easier trip for us.

hope you had a fun trip.
