gglo rocked our summer softball league winning both the regular season and tournament! that means we can say we’re the best architecture & interior design firm in town… :)
our record: 7-3-1
we knew we were going to be down 5 players for the tourney and still pulled off winning all 3 games for the championship. here is schack’s account of the tourney:
Arriving at 10, things were looking pretty bad early as we only had 8 players for the first game. It was at this time I gave the early morning desperation call to Lyon for some much needed assistance. Shaved Ice was up first and they had recruited some new ringers; bad sign when one guy is wearing an “All-American” baseball shirt and swinging a punchy fastpitch bat. Phil had to cover Short and 3rd and we only had 3 outfielders. Luckily we had our offense working for us and built up some insurance runs early. But like most short-handed teams, these dwindled quickly. It was tight going into the last inning, we had first ups, and like our typical clutch mentality, put up 8. This gave us some nice breathing room for the bottom half, which my pitching required every bit of, but we still took care of business.
By the second game against the Wyatt Stamper Alumni (2nd place in the division) Lyon had rubbed the drunk out of his eyes, showed up and gave us some much needed support. We were still short-handed, but 9 is way more palatable then 8. The short of this game is that we were looking bad till the bottom of the 6th when we were down 17-6. But that is when the clouds parted and we put up a team record 17 runs in one inning (Kristi and myself got up 3 times). We gave up a few in the top of the 7th but our last ups were not required.
Coming into our last game, we were the only undefeated team however a loss to MKA would have resulted in a tournament loss by tie breaker, so we still needed to turn it up. Once again we were down early dropping 3 in the first inning, however, after that, we only gave up 2 more runs (2 run bomb in the 5th) to win the game 8-5. I am pretty confident we can consider our team a dynasty at this point.
The tourney MVP’s definitely go to Chris for dragging his ass out when we needed him and Annie who stuck around for all three games and playing some KILLER right field. Anyway, we need to have a party soon to celebrate the victories. I am so sore . . . schack
